LOI CELL System
This project is a family of accessories based on an organic cellular pattern inspired by the biological process of budding, where new cells form and multiply from a shared origin. This system can be implemented across different objects. It begins with a family of desktop organizers and mirrors, with the potential to expand into trays, tableware, planters and storage.
development
The idea was to create a system inspired by the budding cells that could be used to design a whole family of accessories. The first take is an organizer/vase with different cavities. The project is build on a play between solid and void, negative and positive.
function
LOI is made as an open product system that can grow over time. The same cellular geometry can be scaled, combined and translated into different functions and objects sharing the same DNA.
materials and production
Organizers - recycled plastic, potential moulded production
S 11,5 × 11,5 × 10 cm
M 17 × 17 × 10 cm
L 22,5 × 22,5 × 10 cm
Mirrors - CNC-cut glass with steel shadow gap frame
S 50 × 50 cm
M 50 x 105 cm
L 50 × 160 cm
The name LOI is an invented word chosen to visually evoke the system of connected cavities that defines the collection. Each mirror is derived from the space of a single organizer cavity.
possible extension
The proposal can evolve into a wider family of accessories including:
tray
bowl / tableware
vase
planter
storage box
